Mount Olympus editor basics

Find your way around the Mount Olympus editor, including the top bar, the left rail panels, Layers, Preview, autosave and what happens when someone else changes the site while you have it open.

Updated October 15, 2026

Mount Olympus is the site builder. Open any site from Websites and the editor opens on its homepage. This page is a tour of the screen. Shortcuts, the right-click menu and the floating toolbar have their own page: Keyboard shortcuts, right-click menu and toolbar.

How to open and leave the editor

  1. Go to Websites and click the site.
  2. The editor opens on the homepage. Use the page switcher in the top bar, or the Pages panel, to open another page.
  3. To leave, click the house icon at the far right of the top bar (Back to websites; for a template it says Back to templates, and client people see Back to your dashboard). Your edits are already saved.

The top bar

  • Left: the site (or client) name with its status (draft, published or archived), then the page switcher. If the site has more than one language, a language switcher sits next to it: pick a language to edit its text, or Manage languages to open the language settings.
  • Middle: Undo (Cmd+Z) and Redo (Cmd+Shift+Z), grayed out when there's nothing to undo or redo. Then the screen sizes: Ultrawide, Desktop, Tablet and Mobile (see Responsive design).
  • Right: Zeus ("Ask Zeus to change this page", see Zeus in the editor), Comments (shows how many are open, see Site comments), Share this project (preview links, see Preview and share links), Preview, Publish (or Republish once the site is live), and the house icon. A template site shows Save Template in place of Publish.

The left rail

Click an icon to open its panel. Click it again, or the ×, to close it.

  • Add: the Elements panel with every widget, sorted into categories. See How to add and edit widgets and What's in the widget library.
  • Pages: add, rename, reorder and organize pages, plus the Popups tab. See The Pages panel and Popups. Each page has a name (shown in the menu and the Pages panel) and a separate SEO title (shown by Google). Renaming one never changes the other.
  • Layers: a tree of everything on the page (below).
  • Theme: site-wide colors, buttons, text, fonts, spacing, backgrounds, cursor and motion. See Site theme.
  • CMS: Media Manager, Business Info, Business Text and Collections.
  • SEO/AEO: opens the Site Dashboard. See Site dashboard.
  • Blog: posts, layouts, settings, import and Blog SEO. See Blog.
  • Settings: domain, site icons, 404 page, privacy, languages, custom code and other site settings.

Push or overlay: most panels have a button in their header, Switch to overlay mode / Switch to push mode. Push mode (the default) moves the page over so the panel never covers it. Overlay mode lays the panel over the page so the canvas keeps its full width. The editor remembers your choice on this computer. The CMS panel is wide and always opens over the page.

The Layers panel

Layers lists the page from top to bottom: Header, each Section, the Columns, Inner Columns and boxes inside it (Advanced Tabs, Advanced Accordion, Advanced Grid, Free Layout, Dynamic Repeater, Menu), every widget by its type name, then Footer. Tabs and accordion panels show their own titles.

  • Click a row to select that element on the page. It's the easiest way to select something small, hidden or covered.
  • Click the arrow on a row to open or close it. The button in the panel header opens or closes everything (Expand all / Collapse all).
  • The eye icon hides or shows the element on the screen size you're viewing (Hide on this device / Show on this device).
  • Drag rows to reorder. Sections swap with sections, columns with columns in the same section, and widgets can move to another spot or into another column in the same section. To move something to a different section, cut it with copy, paste and delete.
  • An empty page shows No content on this page.

Edit and Preview

Edit mode shows toolbars and selection outlines. Preview (or Ctrl/Cmd+P) shows the page the way visitors see it, including sticky headers, popups and animations. On a computer it shows the page at the real width of your window; Edit mode shows the page at its design width, scaled to fit.

The Preview bar has the screen size buttons, Share (if you can share previews), Publish / Republish, and × (Exit preview (Esc)). Press Esc to go back to editing.

Autosave and undo

Your edits save automatically as you work, and there's no Save button. Saving never publishes anything: visitors only see changes after you publish (see Publish your site).

Undo and Redo cover your edits on the page, up to 50 steps. Side-panel changes such as the Theme aren't undone. Switching the language you're editing starts a new undo history. Details: How undo works.

Changes made somewhere else

Someone else can change the site while you have it open: another person, your client in their portal, Zeus, a connected AI assistant (see Connect your AI assistant with MCP) or the dashboard. Their changes show up in the editor straight away, without refreshing, in Preview too:

  • The changed section lights up for a moment, and a note says who changed it, such as "A teammate updated 'Our services'", "Zeus added a section" or the name of the AI assistant.
  • Sections, the header, footer, phone menu, theme, Business Info, collection items and the text of another language you're editing are swapped in where they are. The page list, menu, popups, blog list and fonts are refreshed in place.
  • If you have unsaved edits in a section someone else just changed, your edits stay. A small Updated elsewhere note (or "Updated by a teammate") appears on the section with Review and Keep mine. Keep mine saves your version over theirs. Review opens This section was changed outside the editor, where you choose Load the latest (show their version, your unsaved edits in that section are discarded) or Keep my version (save yours, their change is lost).

If the editor can't refresh a list by itself (for example while you're choosing which version to keep), a bar appears at the top of the canvas: This site was changed somewhere else (or This site was changed by a connected AI tool), with a short note such as "Pages: 'Careers' added — refresh to see it."

  • Refresh saves any edits you haven't saved yet, then loads the latest pages, menu, popups, blog list and fonts. You stay on the same page, with the same selection and screen size.
  • If one of your unsaved edits clashes with the outside change, you're asked which version to keep first. Choose, then press Refresh again.
  • × (Dismiss) hides the bar. It comes back if something else changes. The bar never appears for your own changes.

Examples

  • Quick text fix on the phone layout: click Mobile in the top bar, click the heading and type. Only the text changes; it's the same on every screen size. Check it in Preview, then Republish.
  • Select a widget that's hidden on Desktop: open Layers, find it by its type name and click the row, or switch to the screen size where it shows.
  • Your client edits while you're working: their section lights up with their change. If you were editing the same section, use Review to pick which version stays.

Limits and what it can't do

  • There's no manual Save button and no publish shortcut.
  • Undo keeps 50 steps, covers only edits on the page and doesn't survive a language switch.
  • Layers can't drag an element into a different section.
  • Preview shows the page you're on. Use Preview and share links to send a preview to someone else.

Who can use it

  • Agency people need the Mount Olympus tool (see Team members and roles).
  • Client people can open the editor for their own sites with any editing permission (see Client permissions). They always see Pages. Add, Layers and Theme need Editor. CMS needs Content Library or Dynamic pages & Connect to Data. Blog needs Blog (or Editor). Settings needs Editor or Dev Mode. SEO/AEO shows when they have Site performance & stats, Site Audit, SEO settings, Blog or Site backup. Publish needs Site publish (or Site republish for a live site). Comments needs Site Comments. Client people never get the Zeus button.

Troubleshooting

  • "Save failed — your changes may not be saved": the last change didn't reach the server, usually a dropped connection. Check your internet, then make a small edit so it saves again. If it keeps happening, reload the page (anything that wasn't saved may be lost).
  • "Publish failed": the publish didn't go through. Try again in a moment. If a longer message shows, it says what to fix.
  • "You don't have access to this tool.": your role doesn't include Mount Olympus, or (for a client person) you don't have an editing permission for this site. Ask the agency owner.
  • "The editor is temporarily unavailable": the agency's account is on hold. Agency people are taken to the billing page instead.
  • A panel covers part of the page: click Switch to push mode in the panel's header.
  • "This site was changed somewhere else" keeps coming back: someone (or a connected AI tool) is still making changes. Click Refresh once they're done.
  • Undo doesn't bring back a Theme change: undo only covers edits on the page. Change the Theme setting back by hand.
  • I can't find the Add or Layers button: you're signed in as a client person without the Editor permission.
