Site Comments let you and your client talk about the website right on the page. Each comment is pinned to the element it's about, so nobody has to describe where things are.
Who can comment
- Everyone on your team who can open the site in the editor.
- Client people with the Site Comments permission. They open the editor from the portal with Edit your website (or Edit Site on a site's page). See client permissions.
Add a comment
- Open the site in the editor and click the Comments button in the top bar. A number on it shows how many comments are open.
- In the panel, click Add comment, then click anything on the page to place your pin. You can also right-click an element and choose Add Comment.
- Type your comment (up to 5,000 characters). To attach an image, click the image button and pick one from the site's media. One image per comment.
- Your team chooses who sees it: Visible to client or Internal – team only. Internal comments are never shown to client people.
- Click Comment. On a keyboard, Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on a Mac) sends it too.
Reply and resolve
Click a pin, or a comment in the panel, to open the thread. Type in Reply… to answer. Click Resolve when it's handled, or Reopen to bring it back.
The panel has Open and Resolved tabs, and a filter for This page or All pages. Comments made by client people are marked Client.
Emails
- When a client comments or replies, your agency's contact email gets a message with a link to the editor.
- When your team replies to a thread a client started, that client gets an email with a link back to their website in the portal. Internal comments never send email to clients.
- Open threads waiting for your reply also show on your dashboard under Needs your attention as Site comments awaiting reply.
Examples
- Client sign-off on a new site: invite the owner with Site Comments only. They pin "change this photo" notes, you fix them and click Resolve.
- Team-only notes: your designer pins an Internal – team only comment for the writer. The client never sees it.
- A screenshot of the problem: attach the image so everyone sees what the client means.
Limits
- Up to 5,000 characters per comment or reply.
- One image per comment, picked from the site's media.
- Only your team can make a comment internal.
Who can use it
- Your team: anyone who can open the site in the editor (Mount Olympus tool).
- Client people: the Site Comments permission and the site assigned to them. Comments-only people see the page but can't change it.
Good to know
- Anyone who can comment can resolve a thread. Clients can edit or delete only their own comments. Your team can edit or delete any comment.
- Replies take on their thread's visibility.
- If you remove a client person, their comments stay.
Troubleshooting
- A client can't add comments: they need Site Comments in their permissions, and the site must be one of their assigned sites.
- "Write a comment (up to 5,000 characters)": the comment is empty or too long.
- "That image can't be attached — upload it instead": the image isn't from the site's media. Upload it to the media library, then attach it.
- "Only the author can edit this comment" or "Only the author can delete this comment": clients can change only their own comments.
- "Resolve the whole thread instead": replies can't be resolved on their own. Resolve the first comment.
- No email arrived for a client comment: emails go to your agency's contact email. Check Contact Email is filled in on Settings → Profile.
