Connect Claude Code and other command-line tools

Add ContentForge to Claude Code or another command-line AI tool with one command, then sign in with your ContentForge login or use an API key.

Updated October 15, 2026

Command-line AI tools connect with one command. Claude Code can sign in with your ContentForge login, or use an API key.

Claude Code: sign in (no key)

  1. In ContentForge, go to Settings → API & MCP.

  2. In the Connect your AI card, copy the first command under Claude Code. It looks like this, with your server URL at the end:

    claude mcp add --transport http contentforge https://your-contentforge-address/api/mcp

  3. Run it in your terminal.

  4. Start Claude Code and type /mcp. Pick contentforge and choose to sign in (authenticate).

  5. Your browser opens a ContentForge page. Sign in if asked, pick your agency under Account, tick what it may do and click Allow.

  6. Go back to the terminal. /mcp now shows contentforge as connected.

Claude Code: with an API key

Use this if your computer can't open a browser, or for a tool that runs on its own.

  1. On Settings → API & MCP, create an API key. Choose what it can do and click Create key.

  2. While the new key is showing, the second command on the page already has your key in it:

    claude mcp add --transport http contentforge https://your-contentforge-address/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer cfk_YOUR_API_KEY"

  3. Copy it and run it. Then click I've saved it in ContentForge. The key is never shown again.

No sign-in step is needed. The key's access is set when you create it.

Other command-line tools

Most command-line AI tools have their own "add MCP server" command or settings file. Give it:

  • the MCP server URL from Settings → API & MCP;
  • the connection type HTTP (sometimes called "streamable HTTP"). ContentForge doesn't use the older SSE type;
  • either sign-in (OAuth), if the tool supports it, or the header Authorization: Bearer followed by your API key.

Check it worked

  • Ask your tool: "List my clients in ContentForge."
  • Signed in? Connected apps (sign-in) on Settings → API & MCP shows it as Active.
  • Using a key? The keys table shows when the key was Last used.

Good to know

  • After ContentForge adds new tools, restart your tool (or start a new session) so it reads the tool list again.
  • Remove it with your tool's remove command, and revoke the key or disconnect the app in ContentForge.
  • A key is a password. Don't commit it to a code project or share it in a chat.
