You can delete your ContentForge account yourself. What goes depends on who you are:
- Agency Owner: you close the agency. The agency and everything in it is deleted for everyone: clients, sites, team logins and client portal logins.
- Admin, team member or client portal user: you delete your own login. The agency keeps the work you did for it.
Nothing is deleted straight away. You get 7 days to change your mind, then the deletion runs automatically and is finished within 30 days of your request.
Close your agency (Owners)
- Before you start, export anything you want to keep: open each site in Mount Olympus and go to Settings → Export site, and download any reports you need. Exports are deleted with the agency.
- Go to Settings → Profile and find Close agency and delete account at the bottom.
- Click Close agency…. The card lists exactly what will be deleted.
- Pick a reason under Why are you leaving? and add anything else if you like.
- Type your sign-in email address in Type your email address to confirm.
- Click Close agency in 7 days.
You see "Scheduled. Nothing is deleted yet — you can cancel until …" and get a Deletion scheduled email with the same date.
Delete your login (team members and client users)
- Team members: go to Settings → Profile. Client portal users: go to Account & security in the portal.
- Find Delete my login and click Delete my login….
- Pick a reason, type your email address, and click Delete my login in 7 days.
If you're an Admin or team member, the content and sites you made stay with the agency (the agency Owner becomes their author). If you're a client portal user, your agency keeps its own records about your business.
Cancel a deletion
Within the 7 days, go back to the same card and click Cancel the deletion (or use the button in the Deletion scheduled email). Nothing was deleted and everything works as before. You get a Deletion canceled email.
After the 7 days the deletion can't be canceled from the app. Email support@the-contentforge.com straight away; it can only be stopped if it hasn't started yet.
What is deleted when an agency is closed
- The agency, its settings and branding.
- Every client and everything about them: sites and pages (published sites go offline and their custom domains are removed), media and photos, content, reports, Zeus data, keywords, social posts, press releases, form responses, contacts and conversations.
- Every team login and client portal login. A login that also belongs to another agency is kept (only its access to this agency goes).
- Google: ContentForge's access is revoked at Google, saved Google sign-ins are deleted, and all Google data stored for the agency is deleted. The same happens for Google Sheets connections on forms and calendar connections.
- Your subscription is canceled. There are no further charges.
Kept, because the law requires it: a minimal payment record (amounts, dates, invoice and payment ids, no names or email addresses) for 7 years. ContentForge also keeps a record that the deletion happened, with only a one-way code of your email address, not the address itself.
When it's done you get a Deletion complete email. Copies in our encrypted backups are overwritten within 35 days.
Disconnecting Google deletes its data too
When you click Disconnect on Settings → Google Connection, ContentForge asks Google to revoke its access, deletes your saved Google sign-in and deletes the Google data stored for your agency straight away. The confirmation lists what will be deleted, with counts, before you click Yes, disconnect. Your clients' Google links are kept so you can reconnect. See How to connect Google and link each client's properties.
Ask by email
You can also email support@the-contentforge.com from your account's sign-in email address and ask us to delete your account or your Google data. We schedule it the same way: you get the Deletion scheduled email with the date you can cancel until, and it's finished within 30 days.
Examples
- Closing the agency for good: export your three sites, then Close agency… on Settings → Profile. A week later the sites go offline, the domains are removed and you get Deletion complete.
- A team member leaves: they click Delete my login…. The blog posts they wrote stay in the agency, now under the Owner.
- Changed your mind on day 3: open Settings → Profile and click Cancel the deletion.
Limits and what it can't do
- Only the agency Owner can close the agency. Admins can't close it for them.
- If you own more than one agency, email support@the-contentforge.com to say which one to close.
- Canceling your subscription doesn't delete your account (see Manage your subscription).
- ContentForge staff logins can't be deleted from here.
- A deletion that has started can't be stopped.
Troubleshooting
- "Type your email address (…) to confirm.": the address you typed doesn't match your sign-in email. Type it exactly.
- "Please pick a reason.": choose an option under Why are you leaving?.
- "This login owns more than one agency…": email support@the-contentforge.com and say which agency to close.
- "The 7 days to cancel have passed.": email support@the-contentforge.com straight away.
- "Open this from your own client login, not View as Client.": an agency person viewing the portal as a client can't delete the client's login. The client does it from their own sign-in.
- I don't see the card in the portal: you're in View as Client. Only the client themselves sees it.
