The editor's Settings panel explained

What every section of the editor's Settings panel does, from Domain and Google Tools to Root files, Custom code and Export site, and who sees each one.

Updated October 15, 2026

Settings holds everything that applies to the whole site rather than one page: its address, tracking, icons, the 404 page, cookies, languages, files at the top of the domain, security, custom code and copying or exporting the site.

How to open Settings

  1. Open the site in the editor.
  2. Click Settings in the left rail.
  3. Pick a section from the list on the left. Its name shows at the top of the right side.

Some buttons elsewhere open a section for you. For example, Set up Search Console on the Site Dashboard opens Google Tools, and the share dialog's Edit opens Domain.

The sections, in order

Agency people see every section. Client people only see the sections their permissions allow (see Who can use it below).

Domain

Shows the site's current address with a copy button, and Change to pick a free address or connect your own domain. Once your own domain is connected and verified, Alternate domains lets you add more domains that forward to the main one.

When the site is live, the Unpublish site block sits at the bottom. Click Unpublish, then Unpublish again in the box that says "Your site will go offline immediately. Visitors will see a 404 until you publish again. It stops counting as a hosted site from your next invoice."

See Connect a domain and Publish, republish and unpublish.

Google Tools

Tracking codes (Google Analytics, Google Ads, Tag Manager, Meta and TikTok pixels), the Google Search Console setup, and a box to paste a verification code by hand. See Google tools and tracking and Connect Google Search Console.

Site icons

The Favicon, the Home screen icon and the Default social share image. Changes go live on your next publish. See Site icons, root files and security.

404 page

The page visitors see at an address that doesn't exist. Customize opens it on the canvas to edit; Revert to original puts back the starter page. See URL redirects.

Privacy

Two parts. Cookie banner sets whether and how the site asks visitors about cookies, plus Enable cookie tracking. Legal pages writes and manages a Privacy Policy, Terms of Service and Cookie Policy. See Cookie banner and Legal pages.

Accessibility

The site's accessibility check, with a score, the problems found and Fix buttons. It's the same check as in the Site Dashboard. See Accessibility checker.

Languages

The site's Main language, and Other languages for multi-language sites. See Multi-language sites.

Root files

Small text files served at the top of the domain, such as ads.txt or a verification file. They go live within about a minute, with no publish. See Site icons, root files and security.

Security

One switch, Allow site in an iframe. Off by default. See Site icons, root files and security.

Custom code

CSS, JavaScript and head code for the whole site. See Custom code and Dev Mode.

Save as template

Saves the whole site as a template that new sites can start from. Only your agency's owners and admins can create templates. See Save a site as a template.

Duplicate site

Makes a new draft copy of the site for this client or another one: every page, the header and footer, design, settings, collections, blog posts (as drafts), redirects and forms. Domains, the live version, backups, stats and form responses stay with this site. It's the same as Duplicate on the Websites page. See The Websites page.

Export site

Downloads the site as a static website, a content pack or a backup file. See Export a site.

When changes go live

  • Go live on your next publish: Site icons, the cookie banner, the 404 page, legal pages, languages, custom code and the tracking codes in Google Tools.
  • Go live without a publish: the Security switch (within about a minute), Root files (within 5 minutes) and the Search Console setup.
  • Take effect straight away: Unpublish, domain changes, Save as template, Duplicate site and Export site.

Examples

  • A client asks why their logo isn't in the browser tab: open Site icons, upload a square Favicon, then republish.
  • An ad network asks for an ads.txt file: open Root files, click Add file, name it ads.txt, paste the lines and click Save files.
  • A seasonal site is finished for the year: open Domain and use Unpublish site so it stops counting as a hosted site.
  • Launching a second location's site with the same design: open Duplicate site and copy it for the new client.

Limits and what it can't do

  • Settings only covers the whole site. Page titles, descriptions and No index are in each page's settings. See Page SEO settings.
  • There's no robots.txt or sitemap editor. Both are made for you. See Sitemap, robots.txt and llms.txt.
  • URL redirects aren't in Settings. They're in the Site Dashboard. See URL redirects.

Who can use it

Agency people with the Mount Olympus tool see every section, except Export site, which only agency owners and admins see.

Client people need Editor or Dev Mode to open Settings at all. Then:

  • Domain, Site icons, 404 page, Privacy, Languages, Root files and Security need Editor. Connecting or changing a domain also needs Custom domain. Unpublish needs Site publish. In Languages, client people can change the main language but only the agency can add or change other languages.
  • Google Tools needs SEO settings (Editor alone isn't enough). Setting up Search Console is agency only; client people see its status. A client person with Site Audit but not SEO settings sees the Search Console status in the Site Dashboard's Google Tools instead (read-only).
  • Accessibility needs Site Audit or SEO settings.
  • Custom code needs Dev Mode.
  • Save as template, Duplicate site and Export site are never shown to client people.

See Client permissions.

Troubleshooting

  • A section is missing from the list: your permissions don't include it. Ask the agency to change your permissions (client people), or check your Mount Olympus tool access (agency team members).
  • "Saved. Publish the site to put it live." but nothing changed on the live site: publish or republish the site. Icons, the cookie banner and other publish-time settings only reach the live site on a publish.
  • "Failed to unpublish" or "Network error — please try again" when unpublishing: try again in a moment. If it keeps failing, contact support.
  • "Only your agency’s owners and admins can create templates." under Save as template: ask an owner or admin to save it.
  • "Only the agency can change the site’s languages": client people can't add or change other languages. Ask the agency.
