Google Tools is where you paste a site's tracking IDs and verify it in Google Search Console. Open the editor, click Settings, then Google Tools. Old Google Tools links in the Site Dashboard, and Site Audit's Fix It, open it there too.
How to add tracking IDs
- Open Settings → Google Tools.
- In the Tracking codes card, paste the IDs you need. Each box shows an example of the right shape.
- Click Save (it appears once you change something). You see Saved — republish your site to apply.
- Republish the site. The codes go live with the published site, not before.
Tracking codes
The boxes, in the order the card shows them:
- Google Analytics (GA4) measurement ID: looks like
G-XXXXXXXXXX. Find it in Google Analytics under Admin → Data streams. - Google Ads conversion ID: looks like
AW-123456789. - Meta (Facebook) Pixel ID: 8–20 digits, such as
1234567890123456. - TikTok Pixel ID: 12–30 letters and numbers, such as
C1ABCDEFGHIJKLMN. - Google Tag Manager container ID: looks like
GTM-XXXXXXX. The container goes in the page head, and its backup tag in the body.
Paste just the ID, not the whole code snippet. Small letters are turned into capitals for you. Empty a box and save to remove that ID.
If you load Google Ads or Analytics through Tag Manager, leave those boxes empty here so nothing loads twice. The site's own visitor stats work whatever you add.
Google's tag (for Analytics and Google Ads) loads just after the page has finished loading, so it doesn't slow the page down. Page views, conversions and calls are still counted — anything that happens first waits in line and is sent as soon as the tag arrives.
Google Search Console
The Google Search Console card sets Search Console up for you: it verifies the site, adds it to Search Console and submits the sitemap. See Connect Google Search Console.
Under it, a row shows what's connected for this client:
- Search Console data: Connected — the property, or Not connected.
- Google Analytics data: Connected — the property, or Not connected.
- Business Profile: Linked — the location's name, or Not linked. This is read-only here. Agency people get a link: Link this client’s Business Profile → opens the client's Settings tab, and once linked, Manage the Google connection → opens Ads & Analytics → Analytics.
When connected, search and analytics data shows in the Site Dashboard's Performance screens, reports and Zeus.
How to verify Search Console by hand
- In Search Console, add the site and choose the HTML tag verification method.
- In Google Tools, open Verify by hand instead (paste a verification code).
- Paste the whole tag, or just its
content="…"value, into Verification code. Click Save. - Republish the site, then click Verify in Search Console.
Google Ads conversions from Zeus
If Zeus has set up Google Ads conversion tracking, a Google Ads conversions card shows, for example, Form submissions and phone clicks report to Google Ads — set up by Zeus. It also says whether that's Live on the site or needs a republish. Agency people can click Turn off or Turn on, then republish. See Conversion tracking with Zeus.
How to add conversion code to one form
- Select a Contact Form and open Manage Form.
- On the Submission tab, paste a snippet into Tracking code after submit.
- Save and republish.
It runs once after a successful submission, only on the live site. Only script, noscript and image tags are kept. A form with its own snippet doesn't also send Zeus's Google Ads conversion, so nothing is counted twice.
Tracking and the cookie banner
With a cookie banner on (Settings → Privacy), Google Analytics, Google Ads, Tag Manager and the Meta and TikTok pixels wait for the visitor's choice, and Google's Consent Mode starts as "denied". Turning off Enable cookie tracking in the same panel removes these tags, Zeus's Google Ads conversions and the visitor stats from the live site. See Cookie banner. For a Privacy Policy that lists these tools, see Legal pages.
Examples
- A dentist running Google Ads: paste the GA4 ID and the AW- ID, save, republish. Then let Zeus wire form and call conversions.
- An agency that manages tags itself: paste only the GTM- ID and set up GA4 and Ads inside Tag Manager.
- A Facebook ads client: paste the Meta Pixel ID. With an opt-in banner, the pixel fires only after the visitor accepts.
- A booking form that should count as a lead: paste the ad platform's "lead" snippet into the form's Tracking code after submit.
Limits and what it can't do
- One ID per box. For a second Analytics property or another tool, use Tag Manager or Settings → Custom code.
- Tracking only runs on the live, published site. Share links, Preview and the editor never run it, so your own visits there aren't counted.
- Codes and the verification code go live only when you republish.
- To serve a verification file such as ads.txt at the top of your domain, use Root files. See Site icons, root files and security.
Who can use it
- Agency people with the Mount Olympus tool can do everything here.
- Client people need the SEO settings permission to see and change Google Tools. They see the connection status but not the links to the client's Google settings, and they can't turn Zeus's Google Ads conversions on or off.
- Tracking code after submit needs Dev Mode.
Troubleshooting
- "Google Analytics (GA4) measurement ID doesn’t look right — it should look like G-XXXXXXXXXX" (or the same for another box): the ID has the wrong shape, so nothing was saved. Common causes: pasting the whole script instead of the ID, a Universal Analytics ID (UA-…), a stream ID (only digits) in the GA4 box, or a space in the middle. Copy just the ID and save again.
- "That doesn’t look like a Search Console verification code": paste the full
<meta name="google-site-verification" …>tag or only its content value. File and DNS methods don't go here. - "Only your agency can change this": a client person tried to turn Zeus's conversions on or off.
- "Zeus hasn’t set up Google Ads conversions on this site": there's nothing to turn on yet. Set it up with Zeus first.
- Search Console says it can't find the tag: republish the site after saving, then click Verify again. The tag must be on the domain you added in Search Console.
- Analytics shows no visits: check that you republished, that you're testing on the live domain and not a preview, that Enable cookie tracking is on, and, with a banner, that you clicked Accept.
- Visits counted twice: the same ID is in a box here and inside Tag Manager or Custom code. Remove one.
