Google Ads can only tell which searches bring customers if it counts the calls and form fills. When an account isn't counting them, Zeus offers to set it up. Setting it up is free.
What counts as tracked
Zeus reads every conversion action in the Google Ads account. A form or phone tap counts as tracked whatever sends it: the Google Ads tag on the website, an import from Google Analytics, or a Google forwarding number. The card and the Zeus Review say exactly what they found, for example "Forms: tracked via a Google Analytics import ("Website form"), recorded 22 in the last 90 days".
Zeus also checks the website the ads send people to: a few of the ads' landing pages and the home page (or, for a Mount Olympus site, the site's own settings). It looks for the Google Ads tag, the Google Analytics (GA4) tag, Google Tag Manager, forms and tap-to-call links, and puts both sides together for each kind of lead:
- Recording: the conversion action is set up and recording.
- Set up, waiting: the action and the tag are both there, but nothing has been recorded yet. That's normal for a new campaign and isn't flagged as a problem. It only becomes Not recording after about 30 days with real clicks and still no conversions.
- Broken: the action is in Google Ads, but the website doesn't have the matching tag, or has another account's tag (or another Analytics property's). The review says what to add, and on a Mount Olympus site Zeus can connect it.
- Check Tag Manager: the site uses Google Tag Manager. Zeus can't see inside it, so make sure the conversion tags fire on form submissions and phone taps.
- Not set up: no conversion action. Zeus offers to set it up.
The Zeus Review shows these in a Conversion tracking card, and each finding's How we know lists what the account says and what each page checked shows.
If a kind of lead is already counted and recording, Zeus leaves it as it is and doesn't create a second action, because two actions would count every lead twice. Zeus only suggests the Google Ads tag when nothing tracks that kind of lead, or when what tracks it has recorded nothing in 90 days.
Where you'll see the offer
- A Set up conversion tracking with Zeus card on Ads & Analytics → Google Ads.
- The Tracking step of Build a campaign with Zeus.
- A conversion tracking finding in the Zeus Ads Review.
Steps
- Read the plan on the card. For each kind of conversion it says whether Zeus will create a new action or reuse one already in the account:
- Website form submissions: someone sends a form on the website.
- Phone clicks on the website: someone taps the phone number on the website.
- Calls from ads: someone calls from the ad's call button and stays on the line for at least 60 seconds.
- Click Set it up. Google checks everything first, then Zeus creates the actions.
- If the client's site is on Mount Olympus, Zeus connects it for you. Every successful form and every phone-number tap reports to Google Ads after the next publish. Nothing to paste.
- If the site is hosted elsewhere, copy the snippets shown and add them to that site.
Checking it works
Each action shows a status:
- Recording conversions: a conversion in the last 7 days.
- No recent conversions: none in 7 days, but some in the last 90.
- Waiting for the site: the website isn't sending it yet. Publish the site, or add the snippets.
- Ready · no conversions yet: set up and working; nothing recorded yet. Nothing to do: it changes to "Recording conversions" after the first form fill or call.
- Removed in Google Ads: someone deleted the action in Google Ads.
Statuses refresh when you open the tab. Click Check now to refresh them yourself. If a website action is still unverified a week after the site went live, it shows up in the next Ads Review.
Undo or do it yourself
- Undo removes only what Zeus created and stops the site reporting it. It's also listed in the Zeus Review's change history.
- Prefer to handle it yourself? Click I'll set up tracking myself. The card then shows Where each piece goes, and you can change your mind with Let Zeus set it up instead.
- On the site, Settings → Google Tools in the editor shows the Google Ads conversions Zeus connected, with Turn off / Turn on.
Examples
- A Mount Olympus site with no tracking: click Set it up. Zeus creates "Website form submissions", "Phone clicks on the website" and "Calls from ads", connects the site, and after you publish, the actions show Recording conversions as leads come in.
- A WordPress site already importing GA4 form leads: Zeus sees the forms are tracked through the Google Analytics import and keeps that action. He only adds phone clicks and calls from ads, and shows the snippets to paste for phone clicks.
- A site on Google Tag Manager: the card shows Check Tag Manager. Open Tag Manager and make sure the conversion tags fire on form sends and phone taps.
Limits and what it can't do
- Three kinds of conversion: website form submissions, phone clicks on the website, and calls from ads (60 seconds or longer).
- Zeus only connects Mount Olympus sites by himself. For any other website you paste the snippets.
- Zeus can't see inside Google Tag Manager.
- Tracking only fires on the site's live domain, and only after a visitor accepts marketing cookies when your cookie notice asks.
- Set it up is limited to 4 a minute and 30 a day per agency.
- Setting it up, checking and undoing are free.
Who can use it
Agency people with the Clients tool, for the clients they can reach. Client people never see it.
Troubleshooting
- Actions stay on "Waiting for the site": on Mount Olympus, publish the site; the connection only goes live with the next publish. On another website, add the snippets shown, then click Check now.
- Still "Ready · no conversions yet" after a week: check the site was republished, that the cookie notice isn't blocking marketing cookies for every visitor, and that tracking isn't switched off in the site's Settings → Google Tools. It also shows up in the next Ads Review.
- "Set it up" shows an error from Google: Google checks everything first, so nothing was created. Common causes: the connected Google login can't make changes in the Ads account (give it Standard or Admin access), or Google asked to slow down. Try again in a minute.
- "Google Ads asked us to slow down for a moment…" or "Google Ads' daily limit for this account's API access has been reached…": wait a minute, or until tomorrow.
- "No Google Ads account mapped for this client": link the account in Client → Settings → Google Integrations.
- "Set up conversion tracking first.": you clicked Undo or Check before anything was set up.
- Leads look doubled: two actions are counting the same lead, or one counts Every conversion. The Zeus Review flags it with Count one per click.
- "Removed in Google Ads": someone deleted the action in Google Ads. Click Undo, then Set it up again to recreate it.
Good to know
- A lead action set to count Every conversion counts one person's second call or second form as a new lead. The Zeus Review flags it with Count one per click.
