An opportunity (a deal) is a possible sale: a name, a value, the pipeline and stage it's at, an owner, where it came from, an expected close date, its contacts, a company, tags, followers, custom fields, notes, files, tasks and its own Activity history.
Board and list
Opportunities opens a pipeline as a Board: a column per stage with the number of deals and their total value. On a computer, drag a card to another stage; Sort cards changes the order inside each column. On a phone the board shows one stage at a time (swipe for the next), and there's no dragging: to move an opportunity on a phone, open it and change its stage. Clicking a card opens it in a side panel; Open full page opens its own page.
List shows the same deals as rows, for one pipeline or All pipelines (list), with the totals at the top. Columns chooses what the list shows.
Both show open deals unless you say otherwise: Showing open only at the top says so; change it to Showing every status to see won, lost and abandoned deals too.
Won, lost and abandoned
- Press Won, drag the card to the Won stage, or pick it as the stage: it's won, with the date.
- Press Lost (or move it to Lost): Mark as lost asks Why was it lost? with the business's reasons (or No reason) and an optional note.
- Abandoned is for a deal that just went quiet: it keeps its stage and leaves the open totals.
- Reopen puts a won, lost or abandoned deal back to open; moving it to an open stage does the same.
People with View access to the pipeline can open the deal but can't do any of this: View is read-only.
Contacts on a deal
A deal has one primary contact and can have more (a couple, two business partners), each with a role such as "Spouse". The deal shows on each of their contact pages, and its Activity history entries also show on the primary contact's.
Followers and owner
The owner is responsible for the deal; followers see it even with Only contacts assigned to them, and are told about changes. Assigning someone tells them too.
Filters and sorting
Filter by pipeline and stages, status, owner, follower, source, value from / to, contact, company, tags (any / all / none), custom fields, and dates: created, updated, stage changed, won, lost and expected close. Dates can be fixed or relative, such as last 14 days or next 7 days, so a saved view like "Closing in the next 30 days" stays current.
Sort by most recent, created, value, expected close, name, time in the stage, or a custom field. Dates can also be picked as Last 7 / 30 / 90 days, Next 7 / 30 / 90 days or Between dates….
Custom fields for deals
Opportunities have their own custom fields, made under Settings → Custom fields → Opportunities (the same types and rules as contact fields).
Editing at the same time
Like contacts, saving a deal someone else changed since you opened it says This opportunity changed since you opened it instead of overwriting their change.
Activity history
Every change shows: stage moves (from and to, and how many days it was in the stage), won / lost / reopened with the reason, value and owner changes, custom field changes with old and new values, tags, followers, notes, files and tasks. A note added on a deal can also go on its contact: tick Also put it on the contact.
Delete, restore and export
Deleted deals can be restored. Export downloads a CSV of the deals that match the filters. Owners and managers can take Can't delete opportunities and Can't export opportunities away from a person.
Where deals come from
By hand (Add opportunity), from a website form set to Make an opportunity for each submission (see Website forms), from the prospect tool in your agency's own Prospects pipeline, through the API, and later from automations.
