Memberships are separate from the online store: a customer isn't a member, and joining never needs a purchase. Members log in with the site's website accounts.
Settings → Memberships
- Sites: switch Memberships on per site. It adds "Join" to the sign-up page and the members-only settings in the editor.
- How people join: Anyone can join (they're a member once they confirm their email), Anyone can ask, you approve (owners and managers get a bell; tick Also email owners and managers for an email too), or Invite only (the sign-up page doesn't show Join).
- Member groups: a member can be in several groups. Each group says how people get in: Joins automatically, You approve, or Added by you only (paid groups come later). Each group is also a tag in the Membership category ("Member: Gold"), so saved lists, campaigns and automations can use it.
- Membership emails: Welcome, Request received, You're approved, Invitation to join, Added to a group. Free, from the business's address, in the site's look. Edit changes the subject and the opening line.
Contacts → Members
Everyone who joined or asked to join, with their groups, when they joined and their last log-in. Requests waiting for an answer come first, with Approve and Decline (or Approve all). Filter by group and status. Invite to join emails someone an invitation (with the groups you pick).
On a contact: the Member badge and a Membership card with Approve / Decline, Add to group, Suspend (access off, kept), End, and Turn back on. Removing a group's tag from a contact asks whether to take them out of the group too.
Automations
Triggers: Asked to join, Member joined, Member approved, Joined a group, Left a group (and Account created). Steps: Add to member group and Remove from member group.
Zeus
Ask the business app's Zeus "who asked to join this week?" or "which members haven't logged in since May?", and approve or decline with a confirm card.
