How to generate schema code

Create ready-to-paste JSON-LD for a client's business, FAQs, services, service areas and blog articles. Free.

Updated October 15, 2026

The Schema Generator builds JSON-LD structured data from a client's details. Use it to paste schema into a site that isn't on Mount Olympus (such as a WordPress site), or into one Mount Olympus page that needs something extra. It's free.

How to generate schema

  1. Go to SEO Tools → Schema Generator.
  2. Under Select Business, search or pick one of your clients. Their details load from the client record.
  3. Under Select Schema Types, tick what you need (see below).
  4. Click Generate Schemas. If a ticked type can't be made, a message says why, and the others are still generated.
  5. Under Generated Schemas, click Copy Code on each block and paste it where you need it.

The schema types

  • Local Business Schema: name, address, phone, hours, areas served and social profiles. The type comes from the client's Schema Business Category (for example RoofingContractor). For a service-area business (ticked on the client), the street address and map link are left out, and so are the town and ZIP code when the town isn't one of its service areas.
  • FAQ Schema: choose Auto Generate FAQ with Zeus (Zeus writes 5 questions and answers from the client's details) or Manually input Q&A for Schema, then type a Question and Answer and use Add FAQ for more. Only mark up questions and answers that are shown on the page.
  • Service Schema: one service, or All Services.
  • Service Area Schema: a Service for one area (pick the area), so the area page says which town or county it covers.
  • Article Schema: BlogPosting for an existing blog article. Paste its URL and click Read article. The headline, description, dates and author come from the page itself. A date the page doesn't show is left out ("no publish date on the page, so none is added"), never filled in with today.

How the blocks fit together

  • Every block points at the same business. Service and Article schema name the business by its ID (https://their-site.com#business), the same ID the Local Business schema uses. Paste the Local Business schema on the homepage and the others on their own pages.
  • Areas served come from the client's service areas: towns become City, counties and regions AdministrativeArea. Write them on the client as a list ("Johnson City, Kingsport, Washington County").

On a Mount Olympus site you usually don't need this

With Local Business schema on in the AEO settings, the homepage gets LocalBusiness and WebSite, service and service-area pages get Service schema, and every page gets breadcrumbs, all from Business Info. Blog posts get BlogPosting automatically, and FAQ accordions can output FAQ schema. Paste anything extra into a page's own schema setting. See Page SEO settings. To see what each page already has, run the client's schema and FAQ audit.

Examples

  • A client on WordPress: pick the client, tick Local Business Schema, generate, and paste the code into the site's header on the homepage.
  • An area page for "Roof Cleaning in Kingsport": tick Service Area Schema, pick Kingsport, and paste it on that page.
  • An old blog post with no schema: tick Article Schema, paste the post's URL, click Read article, then generate.

Limits and what it can't do

  • Areas served are capped at 20.
  • There's no review (star rating) schema. Google ignores star ratings a business marks up about itself, and copying Google review totals onto a website breaks Google's review rules.
  • Google only shows FAQ rich results for well-known government and health sites. FAQ markup still helps search engines and AI assistants understand the page.
  • The tool makes code; it doesn't add it to any site for you.
  • Auto Generate FAQ with Zeus can run 20 times a minute and 300 times a day per agency.

Who can use it

Agency team members with the Schema Generator tool under SEO Tools. Owners and Admins always have it; Members have it unless it's switched off for them in Settings → Team Members. Without it the page says "You don't have access to this tool." See SEO tools overview.

Troubleshooting

  • "Local Business needs the business name on the client": add the business name on the client's Details.
  • "FAQ needs at least one question with an answer": fill in both the question and the answer, or switch to Auto Generate FAQ with Zeus.
  • "Service needs at least one service on the client" or "No services on this client yet. Add them in the client's Business Info.": add services to the client first.
  • "Service Area needs a service area on the client": add service areas to the client first.
  • "Article: enter the article URL and press Read article first": paste the URL and click Read article before generating.
  • "Select at least one schema type.": tick a type.
  • "Please enter a valid URL": paste the full address, starting with https://.
  • "Couldn't find the article's title on that page. Check the URL is the article itself.": you pasted a blog list or home page. Use the post's own address.
  • "Failed to fetch URL: …": the article page didn't load (it may be private or blocking visits). Check it opens in a browser.
  • "No FAQs were generated. Please try again." or "Zeus could not write the FAQs: …": try again, or write them by hand.
  • "You're going too fast — try again in 1 minute.": wait a minute before auto-generating FAQs again.
  • "Couldn't copy to the clipboard. Select the code and copy it by hand.": your browser blocked copying. Select the code and copy it.
