How to optimize a Google Business Profile

Have Zeus judge any Google Business Profile from public Google data and recommend a better description, services, categories and attributes, with a completeness score.

Updated October 15, 2026

The GBP Optimizer reads a Google Business Profile and the business's website, then recommends how to make the profile stronger. It reads public Google data (what anyone sees on Google Maps), so it works for prospects and businesses you don't manage.

Which version to use

  • SEO Tools → GBP Optimization is for any business: a prospect, a competitor, or a quick check. It always finds the business by search or Maps link and reads public data. It never uses a client's linked Business Profile or your Google connection.
  • A client's Local → Business Profile tab runs the same optimizer for that client, in the client's brand voice, when the client's Business Profile isn't linked to Google yet.
  • Once a client's Business Profile is linked (through Google), that tab switches to the live profile: Zeus's profile check with Apply to Google, reviews, posts and photos. The public optimizer isn't shown there any more. See Google Business Profile.

How to optimize any business

  1. Go to SEO Tools → GBP Optimization. You land on the Optimize tab.
  2. Enter the Business Name and Location and click Search Business, then Select This Business. If the search finds the wrong business, or none, go to Use Google Maps Link and click Enter Maps Link: open the business in Google Maps, click Share, copy the link, paste it and click Find. To pick again later, click Change Business.
  3. Enter the Website URL so Zeus can match recommendations to the services the business really offers.
  4. Click Let Zeus Judge Your Profile. The cost shows on the button.

What you get

  • Profile Completeness, with a score
  • Optimization Recommendations, each with Why This Matters and Expected Impact
  • Current vs Improved text, such as the description, ready to copy
  • Recommended Services, Recommended Categories and Recommended Attributes, with Why These Services, Why These Categories and Why These Attributes
  • Example of a Great Review to share with the business

Click Analyze Another to start over. Every result is saved on the Past runs tab, where you can reopen it. The address of an opened result can be shared with your team; it reloads the saved result without charging again.

How to optimize for a client (not linked)

Open the client and click Local → Business Profile. The card is labeled Public Google data.

  1. The tab shows the client's Google Business Profile (name, address, rating). It comes from the client's profile link, or a profile you confirmed earlier. Click Change to pick a different one.
  2. If there's no profile yet, find it one of two ways:
    • Search: the business name and city are filled in from the client. Click Search, then Use this profile next to the right listing. A listing that matches the client's phone or address is marked Matches this client.
    • Paste a Google Maps link: paste the Maps share link, click Check link, then Use this profile.
  3. Check the Website URL and click Let Zeus Judge Your Profile. Zeus writes in the client's brand voice.

The profile you pick is saved on the client, along with its link. Zeus, map scans and citations use it too, and it appears on Client → Settings in the Google Business Profile box. The tab lists the client's Past runs, with the latest open. Click any run to reopen it.

Google reviews over time charts the client's total reviews and star rating each month, from Zeus's monthly check. The chart starts after the second month.

Examples

  • Before a sales call: run the prospect's profile, then show them the Improved description beside their current one.
  • A new client with 2 categories: copy the Recommended Categories into their profile in Google.
  • Asking for reviews: send the Example of a Great Review to the client to share with happy customers.

Limits and what it can't do

  • It reads public data, which can lag the live Google profile by a few weeks. Check the profile in Google before you change it.
  • It doesn't change anything on Google. To apply changes straight to Google, link the client's Business Profile.
  • Business search and Maps link lookups: 30 a minute and 1,000 a day per agency.
  • For ongoing monthly posts, review replies and profile updates, see Zeus drafts.

Credits

One GBP optimizer charge per Let Zeus Judge Your Profile, shown on the button. If no profile is found or the run fails, the credits are returned. Searching, opening past runs and the reviews chart are free.

You can also run the optimizer for a client from a connected AI assistant (the client's profile must already be known), which shows the cost first. See Connect an AI assistant.

Who can use it

Owners and Admins, and Members with the GBP Optimization tool and the Zeus tool on (Zeus writes the review). A client's Local → Business Profile tab needs both the Clients tool and GBP Optimization. Let Zeus Judge Your Profile, Zeus's profile check and Apply to Google on a linked profile also need the Zeus tool; with it off, the button is grayed out and says "Zeus is switched off for your account. Ask your agency owner." Client people can't run the optimizer.

Troubleshooting

  • Zeus is switched off for your account. Ask your agency owner to turn it on.: your Zeus tool is switched off. An Owner or Admin can turn it back on under Tools on your row in Settings → Team Members.
  • "Please enter both business name and location": fill both before Search Business.
  • "Business not found. Try using a Google Maps link instead.": paste the Maps share link instead.
  • "No Google Business Profile found for "Joe's Pizza" in Atlanta, GA. Try using a Google Maps link instead.": the name or town doesn't match Google. Use the Maps link.
  • "Could not extract business information from the link": copy the link from Google Maps → the business → Share → Copy link, not from the browser bar of a search page.
  • "Website URL is required to generate accurate recommendations.": add the website.
  • "No listings found. Try a different name or city, or paste the Google Maps link." (client tab): try the name exactly as on Google, or paste the link.
  • "We don't know [client]'s Google Business Profile yet. Search for it or paste its Google Maps link first.": pick the profile on the tab first. Credits were returned.
  • The tab shows the linked profile and no Let Zeus Judge button: the client's Business Profile is linked. Use Zeus's profile check there instead.
  • "Tool access required": GBP Optimization (or the Clients tool) is switched off for you.
