A store's sales count in the tracking tags the site already has. Add the IDs once in Settings → Google Tools → Tracking codes (Google Analytics, Google Ads, Tag Manager, Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel) and republish. See How to add Google Analytics, tracking pixels and Search Console verification.
What's counted
- On the site's pages: a Product Grid shown, a product page viewed, items added to or taken out of the cart, and the cart opened.
- At checkout: checkout started, the delivery chosen, and the way to pay chosen.
- On the thank-you page: the purchase, with the order number, total, tax, shipping, discount code and items.
Each purchase is counted once per order. Reloading the thank-you page, opening it in another tab or on another device doesn't count it again.
Only product names, IDs, prices, quantities and the order's totals are sent. Never card details, addresses, emails, phone numbers or names.
Checkout stays locked
Checkout and the thank-you page still run none of the site's custom code, HTML widgets, embeds or chat, so nothing can read what shoppers type. Only the official tags for the IDs you added load there, and the page blocks everything else.
If you use Tag Manager, its container loads at checkout too, but only Google's own Analytics and Ads tags in it can run there. Its "Custom HTML" tags are blocked on these two pages.
Cookie consent
Checkout follows the site's cookie banner (Settings → Privacy) the same way every other page does:
- With Opt-in required (and Region-aware for visitors in the EU, UK and Switzerland), nothing loads until the shopper accepts. Analytics needs "Analytics"; Google Ads, Tag Manager, Meta and TikTok need "Marketing".
- With Notice only, tags run unless the shopper clicked Reject, or their browser asks not to be tracked (for ad tags).
- With Enable cookie tracking turned off, nothing is counted at all.
The choice the shopper made at checkout is kept with the order, and anything sent later from the server follows it.
Online store purchases (optional)
The Online store purchases card in Settings → Google Tools adds three optional settings. They apply straight away, no republish needed.
- Google Ads purchase conversion. In Google Ads, open your purchase conversion action and copy its
send_tovalue (it looks likeAW-123456789/AbC123). Needs the Google Ads conversion ID in Tracking codes. - Meta Conversions API access token. In Meta Events Manager, open your pixel's settings and generate an access token. Each purchase is then also sent from our server, matched to the pixel's own so Meta counts it once. This catches purchases an ad blocker stopped. Needs the Meta Pixel ID.
- Google Analytics Measurement Protocol API secret. In Google Analytics, open Admin → Data streams → your stream → Measurement Protocol API secrets, and create one. If the shopper closed the thank-you page before it could count the purchase, it's sent from our server about 30 minutes later instead. It's never counted twice. Needs the GA4 measurement ID.
Saved keys show only their last 4 characters. Click Remove to delete one.
From the server, Meta gets the shopper's email and phone only as a one-way code (hashed), and only with the shopper's Marketing consent. Google Analytics never gets them.
Good to know
- Previews and share links never count anything. Only the live site does.
- If Google Ads or Analytics loads through Tag Manager, leave those IDs empty in Tracking codes so nothing counts twice.
- Google Ads enhanced conversions (sending hashed customer details to Google Ads) aren't sent.
