Client approval of press releases

Have a client approve, decline or ask for edits on a press release in the portal's Approvals tab before it goes out. Off by default, turned on per client in Client approvals.

Updated October 15, 2026

Press releases are one of the four things a client can approve. The full guide is Client approvals; this page covers what's special about press releases.

Turn it on

In Client → Settings → Client approvals, turn on Press releases need the client's approval. The Settings of Content → Press Releases shows whether it's on, with a link there.

Send a release

On a ready release, click Send for approval. It shows Waiting for client. While the switch is on, a release can't be distributed (by checkout or Mark as distributed) until it's approved. Approve for the client lets you go ahead.

What the client sees

In their portal's Approvals tab, the release reads exactly as it will go out: headline, sub-headline, dateline, body, About and media contact. They can Approve, Decline or Ask for edits (with a note). A decline or an edit request puts the release back to Draft, with their answer and note on it. You get a notification in the bell that opens the release.

After a decline or an edit request

Edit the release, then click Send again. Saving changes to an approved release puts it back to Draft, because the approval was for the old text.

Previewing as the client

With View as Client, you see the Approvals tab as the client does, but the buttons don't act there.
